The problem I have with these paint sticks is that they break very easily. They need some sort of wooden holder like those available for the railroad chalk or the lumber crayons. Those holders are of the wrong size for this stick. There is some support from the thin cardboard sleeve but not nearly enough, and the sleeve is unmanagable while wearing gloves. Get used to carrying broken pieces in your pocket.

We use this for marking dbh and numbering medium-sized trees (5-50 cm dbh), especially the dbh line, as an alternative to spray paint. The Paintstik goes on well and lasts at least 2 years through tropical weather. The similar-looking "lumber crayons" do not mark on tree bark very well and are not recommended for these uses.
